The first and most important thing you can do for your body is keep your immunity high – this will help to ward of sicknesses and diseases.   Following are some immune breakers (NOT good for you!!)

  1. Anything that has white flour – breads, pastas, crackers, cakes, cookies, or other foods.
  2. Canned fruit in syrup
  3. Jams and marmalades (except the 100% fruit jams)
  4. French Fries (DARN) except homemade backed fries – I found a good way to have  potatoes bake –see below.
  5. Soft drinks of any kind, regular or diet –which is even worse than the regular due to artificial sweeteners even Splenda is terrible for you!
  6. Cream and ice cream (except for homemade)
  7. Margarines and processed cooking oils.
  8. Caffeine = found in coffee, tea, chocolate, chocolate drinks and soft drinks.
  9. Salt
  10. Sugar substitues

  1. Fresh organic or homegrown fruit and vegetables,
  2. Whole grains as whole wheat, brown rice, millet, quinoa used in baked products, cereals or in soups and stews.
  3. Nuts and seeds (walnuts and almonds are excellent)
  4. Poultry and game
  5. Organic or farm raised eggs
  6. Beans (lentils, chickpeas, flageolet, haricot, kidney and butter beans)
  7. Unhydrogenated margarines or butter (organic).
  8. Fresh fish, especially oily ones (salmon, herring, mackerel)

  10. Flaxseed oil or oil blends to cook with and for dressings.

Mothers Day Breakfast

Just in time for Mothers Day.  Start mom's day out with breakfast in bed.  Below are a couple healthy favorites. Then later in the day, let her have some at home spa treatments. There are a couple options for her to try and just relax on this special day.

First is Breakfast and On The Menu are:

Blueberry Drizzle Pancakes or Sun Kissed Orange Pancakes

Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

Organic Bacon or Organic Sausage

Organic Scrambled Eggs

Recipes:

Blueberry Drizzle Pancakes

1 Cup Organic Flour (buckwheat, wheat)

1 Tbsp Organic Cane Sugar

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

¼ tsp cinnamon

¾ c fresh organic blueberries

½ tsp salt

½ cup organic mild

2 Tbsp organic butter, melted (optional)

Preheat griddle over medium heat.  Blend flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, blueberries and salt in large bowl.  In separate bowl, beat egg until foamy, add mild and butter and beat in.  Combine egg mixture with flour mixture, stirring until combined but still slightly lumpy.  Brush skillet with oil.  Drop a heaping serving of batter and cook for 3-5 minutes or until bottom is golden brown and top is speckled with holes. Flip pancake to brown the other side.

Serve with Quick Warm Blueberry Sauce.

2 ½ Cups organic blueberries

1/3 cup organic cane sugar (personally I leave the sugar out and let the natural sugars of the blueberries come out!)

½ cup organic orange juice

1 Tbsp cornstarch

2 tsp lemon juice

Combine blueberries, sugar and ½ cup orange juice in sauce pan.  Heat on medium heat, stirring constantly, bringing mixture to a boil.  Blend cornstarch with remaining orange juice removing any lumps and add this mixture to the sugar mixture stirring constantly for about 1 minute.  Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.  Sauce will thicken as it cools.  If the sauce gets to thick add a little orange juice.

Sun-Kissed Orange Pancakes

1 organic egg

2 Tbsp organic butter, melted

1 cup organic orange juice

1 cup organic flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 Tbsp organic cane sugar

½ tsp salt

Preheat a skillet over medium heat.  In a blender, combine the egg, butter, and orange juice blending on high for 20 seconds or until smooth.  Add flour, baking powder, sugar and salt and blend for an additional 20 seconds or until smooth.  Drop batter onto skillet and brown on both sides.

Orange Loofah Scrub

Cut fresh oragane in half.  Take the cute end and rub over dry skin on heels, knees, elbows. The acid in the orange will freshen the skin and the pulp will help to slough off the dry

Coconut and Flower Hair Oil
Oiling your hair is the most important part of Ayurvedic hair care. It conditions the hair and scalp and promotes relaxation. Prepare the oil the night before by bringing 1/2 cup coconut oil to a boil. Add 2 tablespoons rose water and 1/2 cup mixed fresh flower petals such as rose or jasmine. Return to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. Remove from the heat. Let the flowers steep in the oil overnight, then strain the oil through a coffee filter or double layer of cheesecloth into an airtight container. To oil your hair, gently massage four to five tablespoons of the oil onto the crown of your head and into your scalp. Wrap hair in a towel and allow the oils to penetrate for at least 20 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as usual.

Nourishing Hair Mask
A protein-rich mask helps to strengthen hair. In a medium-sized bowl, thoroughly combine 1/2 cup yogurt, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 1 egg. Apply the mixture to your scalp after oiling and cleansing. Leave the mask on for about 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Hand and Foot Treatment
To soften rough hands and feet, start by gently massaging them with a loofah or rough hand towel. Next, soak them in a tub of warm water infused with a few drops of sandalwood, rose, neem, or jasmine oils. Use a pumice stone to soften rough areas on the feet. To moisturize, make a solution of 1 teaspoon neem oil and 2 tablespoons coconut oil and massage into both hands and feet, focusing on the heels, soles, ankles, between the toes and fingers, wrists, and palms. Rinse with the juice of one lemon diluted in 1 cup warm water. Dry off with a soft, fluffy towel
